There is no secret formula for success, and I'm no John Wooden. But when you defend with all your heart, share the basketball and believe 100% in a dream, great things can happen. At Lower Merion, these are more than expectations; they are characteristics that define who we are as a team and as a family.
There is an unmatched passion for basketball in this community and an unwavering commitment to excellence on and off the court. While victories and championships bring us great pride, our most rewarding experience is preparing student-athletes to succeed in the classroom and in life. We are proud to be part of a school community that values top quality public education and fortunate to have the resources that ensure our kids receive a well-rounded academic and co-curricular experience. Lower Merion High School is the #1 ranked public high school in PA, and among the top 50 in the nation - public or private - according to the Wall Street Journal. Our kids are scholars, athletes, musicians and artists. Upon graduation, they attend the finest colleges and universities in the nation; some to play basketball, some to pursue other dreams. As an educator and coach, I can't imagine a better place to be.
And for the fans, including the famed "Dawg Pound," it's even better!
Since 1995, we've qualified for District 1 playoffs every year, earned 12 league championships, seven trips to the District Final Four, five District finals, 14 State Playoff bids, five State Finals, a District title and three PIAA State Championships. More than 40 of our student-athletes have gone on to play at all levels of the collegiate and professional ranks. We've played in front of thousands at The Palestra, the Wells Fargo Center, The Pavilion at Villanova, the Giant Center, Hershey Arena, the Bryce Jordan Center and the Liacouras Center against some of the country's best competition and have traveled to events in Maui, San Diego, New York City, Arizona, Boston, Las Vegas, South Carolina, Spokane, San Francisco, Virginia and Chapel Hill. Buzzer-beaters, big wins, cutting down the nets, a sea of maroon and white in the stands.
It's a lot of fun and none of it is possible without the support of our school, family, friends and loyal fans. As always, we look forward to seeing you in the stands, defending us through thick and thin, sharing in the excitement and believing in us until the final buzzer sounds.
