LM overcame a slow start and held on late to beat Conestoga 65-62 in the home opener Friday night.
After trailing 8-0, the Aces tied things up by halftime and led throughout the second half, though the margin was never more than eight points. Steve Payne '19 led the way with 24 points and added six rebounds and five assists. Also reaching double figures were Theo Henry '19 (17 points) and Josh Martin '19 (12 points, 7 rebounds).
LM used a tough three-point play by Henry to create separation in the fourth quarter and sealed the game with clutch foul shoting, including two straight from Martin in the closing minute. Two late Conestoga threes made things interesting, but the Aces would not be denied.
It was an exciting win in front of an energized home crowd filled with Aces alumni and a strong send-off for winter break. More than 40 alums were in the house.
