The Aces used stingy defense and solid free throw shooting to grind out a 59-42 victory over scrappy Marple Newtown on Saturday. After a sluggish 11-11 first quarter, the Aces outscored the Tigers 20-14 in the second quarter and methodically extended their lead in the second half, eventually delivering a knockout blow with a 15-4 fourth quarter run.
Jack Forrest ?19 (20 points), Steve Payne ?19 (17 points) and Darryl Taylor ?19 (12 points) led the Aces attack. LM shot 19-22 from the foul line to help seal the outcome.
Originally scheduled for Friday night, the game was postponed to Saturday due to snow. The result was a relatively quiet Bryant Gym, though it didn?t diminish a gritty effort from both teams. Ultimately, the Aces did what they needed to do, and delivered a solid, workmanlike league victory.
The Aces play a back-to-back against a strong, state-level opponent William Allen in Bryant Gym at 2:30 PM on Sunday.
