Dan Capkin '05 and the Gettysburg Bullets take their historic playoff march to the area this Friday

The Gettysburg College men’s basketball team, led by Dan Capkin ’05, will make the trek back to Collegeville to face No. 16-ranked Ursinus in the Sweet 16 round of the NCAA Division III Tournament on Friday at 8 p.m. Ursinus will host a four-team sectional, with Coast Guard and No. 13-ranked Rochester meeting in the other Sweet 16 game at 6 p.m. on Friday. The two winners will meet in the Elite Eight back at Ursinus on Saturday at 7 p.m., and the sectional winner will advance to the Final Four to be held in Salem, Va., March 21-22. Gettysburg and Ursinus have already met three times this season, with the Bears (27-2) winning all three meetings, including an 85-78 victory in the Centennial Conference championship game on March 2.

The Bullets (24-4) earned the trip to Ursinus thanks to two thrilling victories at home last weekend. On Friday night, Capkin scored 30 points to help lead the Gettysburg to a first-ever NCAA tournament victory, a 95-87 shoot-out against Salem State. Capkin scored 16 points in the Bullets’ 66-65 last-second victory over Elms on Saturday; teammate Corey Dorsey hit three three-pointers with less than 15 seconds to play, including a game-winner at the buzzer.
