The Aces bounced back from a tough loss to Ridley with a convincing 56-44 road victory at Upper Darby on Thursday. The win caps a 15-7 regular season and a rare season-sweep over the Royals. Noah Fennell '17 led all scorers with 19 points on a night that saw contributions from multiple Aces players.
Hot shooting behind the arc and a stifling zone defense keyed a strong start for the Aces. LM scored all of its first quarter points on three-pointers and led 12-4 at the end of the frame. Steve Payne '19, in his first career start, had three assists in the first six minutes and helped energize the Aces' play.
LM extended its lead to 12 points early in the second quarter before a late Upper Darby narrowed the halftime margin to nine at 23-14. Dion Harris '17 and Zack Magill '16 provided a spark off the bench, with Harris blocking three shots and knocking down a jumper and Magill drilling a three-ball to pace LM's scoring.
A strong third quarter helped put the game away. Terrell Jones '17 opened the scoring with a driving layup. Fennell knocked down another three and the Aces received buckets from Jeremy Horn '16, Eli Needle '16 and KJ Helton '16 to extend the lead to as many as 18 points. LM led big throughout the fourth quarter before a late flurry of Upper Darby threes closed the gap to 12 points.
The Aces' victory all but assures the team a home game when the District playoffs commence next Friday. Time and opponent will be determined after the District seeding meeting this weekend.
