The Aces erupted on a 10-0 run to start the game and never looked back in a 63-41 romp at Springfield on Saturday night. LM avenged a loss to the Cougars at home last year and did so in convincing fashion.
LM opened the scoring on threes from Terrell Jones ’17 (13 points, 7 assists) and Noah Fennell ’17 (8 points) and two inside baskets from Jeremy Horn ’16 (17 points), prompting a Cougars timeout. The Aces extended the lead in the second quarter, punctuated by another three from Fennell, strong inside play by Dion Harris ‘17 (9 points, 10 rebounds) and a trey from Jack Forrest ’19. KJ Helton ’17 (8 points) capped the first half with a pull-up jumper just before time expired and LM led 40-20 going into the break.
The Aces coasted in the second half, maintaining a 20 point margin for most of the third and fourth quarter, leading by as many as 26 and never fewer than 17.
Every player on the roster saw action, with continued strong play from Steve Payne ’19 (4 points) and Najja Walker-X, who took a textbook charge in the fourth quarter.
With the win, the Aces improve to 12-3 on the season. A big test looms on Monday as LM takes on undefeated District 2 powerhouse Abington Heights at 4:15 PM at Harrisburg High School in the Harrisburg/MLK Play By Play Classic.
