Not even a miraculous full-court swish could turn the Aces’ fortunes in a 59-44 loss at first-place Conestoga on Saturday night.
With the Aces trailing by five late in the first quarter, KJ Helton ’15 nailed a buzzer-beating moonshot heave from the opposite free throw line that somehow missed the rafters and found nothing but net, prompting an eruption from the Aces faithful. But any momentum the Aces might have had was dashed by the Pioneers’ torrid second quarter shooting. Conestoga drilled three threes and outscored LM 19-9 in the frame, building a 13-point halftime lead.
LM made closed the gap to nine early in the fourth, but Conestoga’s steady play simply was too much for the Aces to overcome.
Corey Sherman ’15 led the Aces with 13 points and Jule Brown ’15 added 12 points in defeat.
LM returns to action against one of South Jersey’s top teams, Atlantic City, on Sunday at 2:45 at Cherry Hill West High School.
