The Aces began their Central League campaign in solid fashion on Tuesday night, scoring a 54-42 victory at Penncrest.
Steve Pendleton ?15 led a balanced attack with 15 points. Also in double figures were Corey Sherman ?15 (14 points), Jule Brown ?15 (11 points) and KJ Helton ?16 (10 points).
The Aces scored the first bucket of the game on a Pendleton trey and never trailed, but the Lions battled hard to keep things interesting. LM led 13-11 after one and extended the lead to eight late in the first half on a Helton floater, but Penncrest pulled within six at 26-20 to close the half.
Helton drilled consecutive threes to open the third quarter, giving the Aces their first double-digit lead of the game. The margin swelled to 15 points on an acrobatic drive and finsih by Brown before a Penncrest run narrowed the gap at 36-30 at the end of the quarter. LM would slowly build their lead in the fourth and keep the Lions at bay. A 4-0 run late in the frame brought Penncrest within seven, but Sherman answered with a trey at the 1:42 mark to effectively put the game out of reach.
The Aces received important contributions from a number of players on Tuesday night. Dion Harris ?17 and Jeremy Horn ?16 provided solid interior defense and combined for three blocked shots and five rebounds. Terrell Jones ?17 keyed the Aces? first half run with an impressive offensive rebound and put-back. Eli Needle ?16 provided solid minutes off the bench. A large, loud Dawg Pound also delivered, giving the Aces a big boost on a cold, rainy Tuesday in December.
The Aces return to action Friday night at Haverford. Tip-off is 7 PM.
