The Aces capped another strong district playoff run with an impressive 53-42 victory over Abington on Friday night. LM led from start to finish, vanquishing the Ghosts with a barrage of early threes, stingy defense and solid foul shooting. Justin McFadden '14 led all scorers with 18 points, including 9-12 from the free throw line. Corey Sherman '15 chipped in with 11 points. Steve Pendleton '15 (7 points), Jule Brown '15 (7 points), Nick Jones '15 (6 points) and Oliver Henry '14 (4 points) rounded out the scoring.
The Aces outscored Abington 15-7 in the first frame, with 12 points coming from beyond the arc, including two treys from Sherman and one each from McFadden and Brown. The Ghosts chipped away in the second, but LM maintained a 25-23 advantage heading into halftime. In the third, the Aces used a 10-0 run to break open the game, punctuated by a McFadden two-handed slam on a drive down the center of the lane. The Aces led by as many as 15 in the fourth quarter and prevented any hope of an Abington comeback by making free throws down the stretch. LM shot 18-23 for the game from the charity stripe.
The Aces ended Abington's 35-game home winning streak and limited the Ghosts to their lowest offensive output of the season.
With the victory, LM concludes district play with a 4-1 record. All four victories came in double-digit fashion against league champions (CB East/Suburban Continental, Penn Wood/Del-Val, Spring-Ford/Pioneer, Abington/Suburban National). During the past three years, LM's District playoff record is 15-3.
The Aces now turn their attention to the state playoffs and a first-round match-up next Saturday with Hershey, the #3 seed from District 3 at a site/time TBD.
