Lower Merion Basketball will honor the 1976 and 1978 District I championship teams at Friday's District playoff opener. The teams will be called to the floor with Head Coach Bill Stephens during a halftime ceremony. A reception for all LM Basketball alumni will begin at 6 PM in the lobby outside the athletic office. The 1976 title team compiled an overall record of 24-4 (13-3 Central League) en route to league and district titles. The team finished 2-1 in state play. Members of the team included Kevin Henry, Sam Brown, Kevin Lonesome, Joe Obrant, Pete Jackson, Lou Shubin (mgr.), Frank Karreman, Ken Clarke, Jim Brogan, Conrad Myers, Dean Zenobi, Jay Kostman and Jim Lafferty.
The 1978 squad finished the regular season at 19-7 (12-4 Central League) and raced through District play before falling to Lebanon (led by future NBA #1 pick Sam Bowie) in state play. Members of the team included Jody Armour, Steve Cole, Jim Heller, Lou Lassoff, John McConnell, Jim Stotter, Robb Fox, Mike Karsch, Dave Holland, JB Bowie, Joe Conwell, Lornell Morris and Jeff Brown.
