The Aces (17-2) will take on Springfield in the final home game of the 2012-13 regular season this Friday night at 7:00 PM. Prior to tip-off, Aces Nation will honor the extraordinary Class of 2013 during Senior Night festivities. This year's class is one of the largest and most talented in team history, with a total of ten players and three managers all contributing to the legacy of Lower Merion Basketball.
Members of the Class of 2013 are Doug Cotler, Yohanny Dalembert, Raheem Hall, Baird Howland, BJ Johnson, Greg Levy, Bryan Shapiro, Emery Shiffraw, Rasool Smith, Matt Wasson and managers Tony Fisher, Max Titlebaum and Mike Scott.
On Saturday, the Aces travel to Ridley for a 7:30 PM match-up with the Green Raiders, then finish the regular season at Radnor on Tuesday night at 7 PM.
The past week has been another winning one for LM. The Aces finished off a regular season sweep of Harriton last Friday, beating the Rams 58-41 at the Bryant Gymnasium on Coaches vs. Cancer Night. Despite a snowstorm, more than 1200 fans packed the stands for what has become a highly-anticipated annual evening of community hoops and charity. BJ Johnson '13 finished with 19 points and Justin McFadden '14 had a career-high 12 points in victory. Johnson was honored in a pre-game ceremony for scoring his 1,000th career point. Several members of LM's 1000-Point Club were on hand to help mark the occasion, including Dan Capkin '05, Mike Venafra '00 and Sarah Lowe '02. (See below for the full list of LM's thousand point scorers.)
LM made their inaugural trip to Marple Newtown's renovated gymnasium a successful one, mauling the Tigers 80-40 on Tuesday night. After falling behind 14-13 in the first quarter, LM exploded on a 34-4 run, punctuated by a Raheem Hall '13 two-handed jam on the break. Hall led all scorers with 17 points. Fourteen Aces -- a season high -- entered the scoring column. Greg Levy '13 and Matt Wasson '13 chipped in with six points apiece off the bench.
