The Aces exploded on a 30-7 run to start the game and never looked back in a 72-35 romp over Radnor on Tuesday night. Eleven players entered the scoring column in a balanced offensive effort, led by Yohanny Dalembert '13 (12 points), BJ Johnson '13 (12 points), Baird Howland '13 (8 points), Darryl Reynolds '12 (8 points) and Raheem Hall '13 (8 points).
LM used relentless defensive pressure to smother the Raiders. The Aces forced 24 Radnor turnovers, resulting in numerous transition scoring opportunities and a barrage of fan-pleasing dunks. Sophomore guard Jaquan Johnson’s sharp passing helped initiate two of the game’s bigger highlights: a crafty drive-dish to Dalembert for a monster two-handed jam that recalled the Payton-to-Kemp Sonic Boom era and a quick feed to Johnson in transition for a one-handed tomahawk slam over a helpless Radnor defender. Also racking up frequent flyer miles were Reynolds and McFadden, who had a nice throw down on a breakaway.
The Aces’ aerial assault was not limited to dunks – Howland came off the bench to nail two Jimmy Chitwood-esque threes in transition and gave the Aces an all-around effort that long-time fan Matt Bernstock ’93 likened to “a mixture of Marc Iavaroni, Jud Buechler and Danny Ferry.”
Senior Bryce Williamson (7 points) earned his first career start and gave LM his usual gritty play.
The Aces outscored Radnor in every quarter and limited the Raiders to just 15 second half points.
With the win, LM moves to 8-2 on the season (5-0) Central League. Next up for the Aces is a match-up with Haverford at home on Thursday evening (7:30 PM tip-off).
