Vince Weldon '09 made key stops on the defensive end in the Aces' win

The Aces capped their District playoff campaign with a 56-53 overtime win against #5 Central Bucks South on Saturday. With the win, the Aces improve to 23-6 on the season and 5-2 in the postseason (including league and district play).

After controlling the first half and extending their lead to ten points in the third, the Maroon & White withstood a strong fourth-quarter comeback by the Titans. Clutch defensive plays by seniors Vince Weldon and Nick Bibbs, as well as a crucial bucket by Alon Seltzer ensured the overtime period. With time running out in regulation and CB South holding a two-point advantage, Weldon stole the ball at midcourt and dished to Oliver Cohen, who calmly found Seltzer for a layup to knot the game at 43-43. After a Lions turnover, a Robbins desperation heave fell short, sending the game into overtime. Seltzer set the tone in the extra frame, sinking a three-pointer early on. A Greg Robbins layup with 1:45 left extended the Aces lead to 7, essentially putting the game out of reach.

As has been the case for most of the season, Robbins led the Aces. Contributing a game-high 26 points and 9 rebounds, he kept Lower Merion from falling too far behind late in the game. Harley Williamson scored 14 points, collected 9 rebounds, and anchored the Aces’ interior defense. Seltzer (6 points) and Cohen each made important treys. Cohen once again led the team with 5 assists, including the key pass to Seltzer at the end of regulation. Eric Stahler had a strong game off the bench, scoring six points, running the offense and playing solid defense. Enough cannot be said of the defensive efforts of Bibbs and Weldon; both seniors had two critical steals each, coming at key moments of the game. Conor Foote made his first start of the year for the Maroon & White.

The Aces now turn their attention to the State Playoffs and a familiar first-round foe. LM will square-off with District 11 champion Parkland next Saturday afternoon (Time, Location TBD). The Aces opened the season with 66-52 loss against the 24-3 Trojans, who beat Pocono Mountain East on Saturday evening to clinch their District title. Parkland features a balanced attack, led by Lehigh Valley Conference MVP Jaleel Clark.
