Senior Aces Celebrate their win on Senior Night

Ardmore, PA – The Lower Merion girls’ basketball rolled out to a 16-1 lead and never looked back en route to a lopsided 64-28 victory over a depleted Marple Newtown team on Saturday evening on Senior Night at Bala Cynwyd Middle School. With the victory, the Aces improve to 18-2 overall and remain perfect in Central League play at 14-0.

Eleven Aces saw action on the night with eight players contributing on the offensive end. Senior Amy Woods led Lower Merion with a team-high 13 points and seven boards while junior Kiki Worku chipped in 10 points on 5-of-7 shooting from the field. Sophomore Lila Jones and senior Molly Hanlon both added nine points apiece with Hanlon dishing out a game-high seven dimes. Freshman Jessie Porter added a career-best eight points while the senior backcourt of Lil Carney and Erin Knox contributed seven and two points, respectively. Sophomore Betsy Hanlon (six points) drew the biggest cheers of the night when she drained back to back three-pointers in the 4th quarter for the first Varsity points of her career. 

The Aces will return to action this upcoming week when they host Conestoga on Monday, February 2nd. The last regular season home game will tip-off at 7:30 PM at Bala Cynwyd Middle School. 

Notes: Lower Merion honored the Aces’ four senior captains (Lil Carney, Molly Hanlon, Erin Knox & Amy Woods) in a pre-game ceremony prior to tip-off. The Class of 2009 is currently the most successful in Lower Merion girls’ basketball history garnering an overall 78-29 record over the last four years. Their accomplishments already include two trips to the PIAA State tournament and a Central League title in 2006.
