The Aces’ second-half surge continues. LM once again dominated on the floor, dispatching the Springfield Cougars 66-45 in front of a large Alumni Night crowd. The Aces had the game in hand from the opening tip-off, dominating both the scoreboard and the momentum; Springfield found themselves in deep water after the first quarter and never had the chance to come up for air. The win was the Aces’ sixth straight and pushes their season mark to 11-4.

The Maroon & White came out of the gates strong. Two quick threes by Oliver Cohen and Alon Seltzer put Springfield in an early 6-0 hole and the Aces extended the margin to 20-13 by the end of the quarter. From there, the game was, for the most part, smooth sailing with the Aces winning every quarter.

For the second game in a row, the Aces featured a balanced attack, incorporating seven players on the scorecard, including three in double digits. Senior Greg Robbins led the way, scoring a game-high 21 points. Junior Oliver Cohen notched a career-high 14 points. Senior Harley Williamson scored 10 points, but more importantly played tremendous interior defense, dominating the opposition in the paint, swatting 7 shots and grabbing 7 rebounds. Williamson also supplied the highlight of the night, blocking a Springfield shot and taking the ball coast-to-coast for a powerful two-handed slam. Alon Seltzer filled up the stat sheet, scoring 9 points, collecting 7 rebounds and notching a team-high 6 assists. Adding to the Aces’ defensive prowess, Senior Mike Joseph had 3 blocks, all coming on the same Springfield possession; he also added 4 points. Senior Nick Bibbs also added 6 points.

Earlier in the evening, the Lower Merion Junior Varsity team won by more than 40 points, again setting the stage for their older counterparts. At both levels, the Aces are making a late, determined push as contenders in Central League play.

Lower Merion will be back in action on Wednesday against Upper Darby High School. The game is home at Bala Cynwyd Middle School. It marks the second of four consecutive home games for the Aces. Game time is 7:30 PM.
