Ardmore, PA - Lower Merion Aces senior Greg Robbins will take his talents to the University of Richmond next fall. The 6'4 All-State guard, who verbally committed to Richmond during the summer, made his decision official by signing a National Letter of Intent on Wednesday morning. Robbins will be joined by friends and family at a ceremony to formally mark the occasion on Monday, November 17 at 12:30 PM in the Lower Merion HS library. "Playing Division 1 basketball has always been a dream for me, and to be able to do it at a place like Richmond is really a dream come true," said Robbins. "It's a great school, a great program and it just seems like the perfect fit. I am very grateful to have this opportunity." During the past two years, Robbins has been the Aces' leading scorer, breaking the thousand-point plateau last season and becoming just the second player in Aces history to do so in his junior year. (The first - Kobe Bryant '96 - is the reigning NBA MVP.) He is currently ranked 5th on the Aces' all-time scoring list with 1,082 points. In 2007, Robbins propelled the Aces to the state quarterfinals with a pull-up jumper at the buzzer against Easton. As a freshman, he helped lead the Aces to a state championship with a string of clutch playoff performances, including a game-saving block in the closing seconds of the title game against Schenley. "Hopefully, I can finish my senior year with a bang and bring some of those winning experiences with me to Richmond," said Robbins. "Their program is really coming on and I know how much talent they have on that team. And I've really enjoyed getting to know the coaching staff. What can I say, it's definitely an exciting time to be a Spider." "Greg is a multi-talented player with a lot of upside," said Lower Merion head coach Gregg Downer. "We have tremendous respect for the coaching staff at Richmond; they've stuck with Greg through thick and thin and I think their efforts will pay off in getting a player who can do a lot of things to help a team win. At the end of the day, that's what Greg is - a winner." With a college decision made and a successful soccer campaign over (as an All-State soccer star, Robbins helped lead the Aces to their first state playoff win in ten years this fall), Robbins can now dedicate full focus to his senior basketball season at Lower Merion. The Aces begin practice on November 17th and play their first official contest on December 5th at Parkland High School.
