Behind the strength of another outstanding defensive performance, the Aces raced to a 30-13 halftime lead and never looked back in Wednesday's 68-35 win against Coatesville. Ryan Brooks turned in a huge performance, leading all scorers with 27 points, including four three-pointers and collected 9 rebounds, four steals and two assists. Five players connected from beyond the arc, including Brooks, Garrett Williamson (9 pts, 7 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals, 2 blocks), Greg Robbins (9 pts, 6 rebounds), Pete Lucas (8 pts, 3 assists) and Arian Thompson (5 pts, 2 steals). Ernest Moore (4 pts), Eric Barefield (4 pts), Jon Gray (2 pts) and Carl Johnson (2 pts) rounded out the scoring.
The Aces forced 22 Coatesville turnovers, thanks in part to a sticky full-court press and a solid man-to-man game on the perimeter. The 35 points scored by Coatesville represented their lowest output of the season. Additional highlights included Arian's two dives for loose balls and successful charge attempt, a nifty bang-bang transition dunk by Ryan on a quick outlet from Garrett and the first seven points of the game scored by a freshman, Robbins. Another highlight came in the 4th, when sophomore Ben Lucas entered the game with brother Pete, a senior, for a chance to share a moment together on the court. Pete drilled a three the first time he touched the ball, punctuating a memorable and emotionally-charged night.
Wednesday was the last home contest for our seniors, and they left it all on the floor for a rocking crowd. More than 1500 fans packed "Aces Nation Stadium" and joined DJ Vern to create a loud, raucous and exciting atmosphere. A perfect send-off for the next leg of the journey.
Thanks, again for all of your support so far this season. We hope to see you in the stands on Friday night and in the coming weeks!
