It was a win for the old heads. Ryan Brooks scored 32 points and gathered 11 rebounds to lead DeStefano Electric to an 86-78 victory over FillySol in the Donofrio Classic Round of 16 at the Fellowship House (Conshohocken) on Monday night. DeStefano boasts a roster heavy with Aces upperclassman talent, including seniors Jon Gray, Ernest Moore and Garrett Williamson and junior Eric Barefield. FillySol features the area's top 9th grade talent, including LM's own Greg Robbins and Eric Stahler.
Brooks was a one-man wrecking crew on the night, adding 9-11 free throws, 5 assists and four steals to his gaudy statline. Even without Williamson in the lineup (away for Spring Break), the Aces contingent dominated the box score, scoring 62 of DeStefano's 86 points. Eric Barefield tallied 15 points and 8 assists, including 4-4 free throw shooting. Moore chipped in with 8 points, 5 assists and 3 steals and Gray was a presence in the paint, with 7 points, 8 rebounds, 5 blocked shots and 3 steals.
Though they were matched up against an older team, FillySol was by no means outclassed. The "kids" impressed the crowd with aggressive play and stayed within striking distance the entire game, closing the gap to four with only a few minutes to play. Robbins scored 8 from the wing forward position and Stahler handled point duties with aplomb.
Next up for DeStefano is a Round of 8 match-up on Thursday night at 8:30 PM against the Sonny Hill Juniors. For more information, visit tedsilary.com and click on Donofrio Classic in the "Special Features" section.
