Score one for the offense. The Aces used a 10-2 run in the first 90 seconds of the game and piled up the points in a 79-51 win over scrappy Oxford in Round 1 of the District 1 playoffs. Greg Robbins (17 points, 17 rebounds, six assists and five blocks) had a strong night, leading a balanced attack that saw five Aces in double figures. Carl Johnson had 15 points in his return from after a two-week absence from injury. Eric Barefield (14 points, six assists), Eric Stahler (13 points, four assists), Steve Meehan (11 points) and Will Jones (a career-high 9 points) rounded out the scoring. The Aces finished the game with 26 assists to just 11 turnovers.

The Maroon & White maintained a double digit lead thoughout the first half before Oxford narrowed the gap to eight in the third. A former AAA powerhouse playing in their first AAAA playoffs, the Hornets displayed admirable resolve in a hostile Main Gym. Junior Darren El (19 points) and West-Chester bound senior Julius Gray (11 points) led the way for visitors, but Barefield and the Aces helped keep Gray -- one of the top scorers in D1 -- well below his 21.4 ppg season average. In the end, the Aces simply had too many weapons. The Aces pounced in the 4th and extended the lead to as much as 31 with a 30-12 run in the final frame.

Up next for the Aces: a 2nd round match-up at home on Wednesday with Cheltenham. The always-dangerous Panthers defeated Glen Mills in Round One 62-60.
