The Aces gather pre-game in the locker room at Upper Darby

The Aces had a statement to make to the defending Central League champs. And they made it by beating the Royals of Upper Darby 56-31 with their best defensive showing of this young season.

Great defense met great offense as Greg Robbins put up 21 points for the second consecutive game and pulled down 9 rebounds. Carl Johnson contributed 11 points and 6 assists and Ben Lucas scored 7 points, 6 of which came from downtown. The real X-factor, however, was the impeccable defense shown by LM, particularly on the perimeter where Johnson and Steve Meehan harassed the Royals' backcourt all night long..  The Aces out-rebounded the Royals 36-21 and held them without a three pointer the entire night.

Plays of the Game...Robbins set the tone for the Aces, scoring the first points of the game on a breakaway dunk. In the third, he came up with another huge play, blocking a shot and sending it off the backboard, probably leaving a dent. Johnson dazzled with an array of moves to the basket, none prettier than a scoop layup through traffic to give the Aces their first 20 point lead late in the 3rd.

The Aces (3-0, 3-0) host the Haverford Fords (2-3, 1-2) Thursday night at 7:30. LM split the series with Haverford 1-1 last year, beating them 58-45 in the second meeting.  Haverford is coming off of league losses to Upper Darby and Conestoga. The Aces will have to watch Jake Mingey, who is averaging 19.8 points a game this year.
