The Aces bench celebrates late in the fourth quarter after a Darryl Taylor '19 dunk.

In front of a full house at Harriton, the Aces took down the Rams 75-62 in the annual inter-district contest between the two LMSD programs. After a close first half, LM opened up a double-digit lead in the third quarter and never looked back in an all-around team effort.

Josh Martin ’19 (18 points, 11 rebounds) and Steve Payne ’19 (24 points, six assists) had big nights for the Maroon & White. Harrison Klevan ‘18 (14 points) and Darryl Taylor ’19 (12 points, 6 assists, 4 steals) also reached double figures. Taylor had the highlight of the night, taking a pass from Payne in transition and throwing down a one-handed jam – the first of his career – much to the delight of an animated Dawg Pound.

The Aces started hot, opening the game on a 16-6 run before the Rams battled back to tie it by the end of the quarter. After a tight second frame LM began to find its rhythm after halftime, building an 11-point advantage midway through the third after an and-one finish from Martin and a three from Klevan. Harriton battled, but the Aces – keyed by strong perimeter defense from Taylor and Payne and solid post play from Martin -- kept the pressure on, extending the lead to 15 points in the fourth quarter.

It was a solid win in a charged environment for a shorthanded Aces squad that again played without Jack Forrest ’19. The Aces are receiving contributions from multiple players and displaying a “next man up” approach that hopefully will serve them well as they approach the final stretch of the regular season.

The Aces return home Sunday to play District 1 contender Neshaminy at 1 PM in the finale of the 2018 Kobe Bryant Classic.
