Whatever the Aces had for breakfast on Sunday clearly left them hungry for more, as they feasted on the offensive end in Sunday’s victory over William Allen, delivering one of the best shooting performances in Bryant Gym history. LM nailed a season-high 16 three-pointers and amassed 20 assists in an 87-76 victory over the Canaries of District 11. The 87 points scored by LM ties the gym record.
Steve Payne ’19 had a huge game, scoring 27 points and drilling five treys; Jack Forrest ’19 added 16 points and Zack Slogoff ’18 made the most of his first start of the year, delivering a remarkable 5-5 performance from beyond the arc en route to 15 points. LM led from start to finish, and led by as many as 27 points in the third quarter before Allen made a furious fourth quarter run against the Aces reserves to cut the deficit to 11 at the final buzzer.
Slogoff and Payne set the pace, contributing three three-pointers in the first quarter. LM had a 26-9 lead after the opening frame and pushed the lead to 23 points in the second after Forrest hit two quick threes and Darryl Taylor ‘19 finished a marvelous and-one layup. At the half, LM led 54-33, with Payne contributing 20 points.
In the third, the Aces kept up their scoring with a huge quarter from Harrison Klevan ’18. The senior guard made three threes to push the Aces ahead 72-47.
In the fourth quarter of a back-to-back game, the Aces’ tired legs began to show and Coach Downer went to the bench. Allen cut into the LM lead, but it was too little too late. The damage had been done and the Aces capped a strong win against a traditional District 11 power.
The Aces get back to Central League action on Tuesday at 7 PM on the road at Strath Haven.
