March Madness! Jones ’02, Capkin ‘05 headed to NCAA Tournament

Dan Capkin '05 and the Gettysburg Bullets will host Salem State in Round 1 of the NCAA Tournament

Aces alumni Rob Jones ’02 and Dan Capkin ’05 will help lead their respective teams in the 2008 NCAA Division III Tournament. Jones and the Immaculata Mighty Macs (18-9) earned an automatic bid by virtue of their 85-68 win against Gwynedd-Mercy in the PAC Championship game. Capkin and the Bullets captured an at-large bid thanks to the program’s best-ever record (22-4) and a #2 ranking in the Mid-Atlantic Region.

Immaculata, a first-time NCAA qualifier, will take on host Richard Stockton College (20-6) in a round one match-up in Pomona, NJ. Gametime is Friday (3/7) at 8 PM. Richard Stockton earned an automatic bid by winning the New Jersey Athletic Conference tournament.

Gettysburg, back in the tournament for the first time since 2001, will host Salem State College (21-6) on Friday (3/7) at 8 PM at the Bream Gymnasium in Gettysburg, PA. Salem State received an automatic bid by beating Westfield State 82-62 in the Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) championship game.

Both Jones and Capkin earned All-League recognition for the second consecutive season. Jones, a senior, was named honorable mention All-PAC. Capkin, a junior, was named first team All-Centennial.

A total of 59 teams qualified for this year's NCAA Division III Tournament. 
Champions from thirty-eight conferences received automatic bids, while the remaining 21 teams were selected at-large.
