KJ Helton '16 had five threes against Abington Heights.

The Aces battled to the wire, but couldn't overcome a slow start in a 62-55 setback against undefeated Abington Heights at the Harrisburg Play by Play Classic.

After trailing by ten after the first quarter, the Aces cut the margin to single digits in the second frame. The Comets extended the lead to 15 in the third before LM rallied to narrow the gap to seven points. Each time Abington Heights made a run, the Aces countered. Trailing by nine with 5:26 on the clock it appeared the Aces finally would break through. A 6-0 Aces run cut the margin to three with more than three minutes to play. LM's defense held, but the Aces could not convert on the offensive end and were forced to foul. Abington Heights made enough free throws down the stretch to seal the outcome.

LM shot a torrid 10-18 from beyond the arc, including a 5-5 performance from KJ Helton '16 who earned team MVP honors for the game. But the Aces could not break through against Abington Heights' formidable front line -- the tallest in the state at 6'10 and 6'9. The Comets also shot well from the perimeter and ultimately proved why they are one of the few remaining undefeated 4A teams in Pennsylvania.

It was a tough test for LM and a learning experience against a quality state-level opponent. The hope is that games like this will prepare the team for what promises to be a challenging home stretch in league play. LM returns to action Wednesday night at Garnet Valley. Tipoff is 7 PM.
