The Aces closed out the regular season in impressive fashion, blasting Upper Darby 65-35 on Senior Night at the Bryant Gymnasium.
For the second consecutive night, the Aces strung together a complete performance, dominating the Royals on both ends of the floor. LM led 20-12 at the end of the first and used a 9-0 second quarter run to cruise into halftime up 42-25. The margin swelled to 27 by the end of the third. LM limited Upper Darby to just ten second half points and handed the Royals their largest margin of defeat this season.
On a night when the Aces honored their five seniors, it was fitting that the upperclassmen would lead the way. Jule Brown ‘15 drilled four first-half threes en route to a game-high 16 points. Asher Barry ’15 added 11 points and eight rebounds. Corey Sherman ‘15 scored 10 points to go along with a team-high seven assists. Steve Pendleton ’15 played a brilliant floor game, notching nine points, five assists and four steals. Joel Dunoff ’15 earned his first career start and helped set the tone in the early going when the Aces seized command of the game.
All five saw significant action and were able to celebrate from the sidelines, along with senior manager Max Ayala, for much of the second half as their younger counterparts kept things rolling. Nine players entered the scoring column and the team played with fire and purpose from start to finish, diving for loose balls, sharing the basketball and smothering the Royals on defense.
With the win, LM enters the Central League playoffs as the #2 seed at 12-4 and will take on #3 Ridley at Marple Newtown in a semifinal match-up on Saturday afternoon at 4 PM.
