On a night so cold it inspired a pre-game soundtrack of Bruce Springsteen’s “Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out” and Vanilla Ice’s “Ice, Ice Baby,” the Aces’ performance was anything but chilly. LM heated up from beyond the arc, drilling a season-high nine treys in a 67-49 rout of Garnet Valley.
It was actually the Jaguars who were hot early, going for five threes of their own in the first quarter. Trailing 18-14 at the start of the second, LM exploded a 20-5 run punctuated by two Corey Sherman ‘15 threes to take a 34-25 lead into halftime. LM extended the margin to 55-36 by the end of the third, behind the inspired play of Dion Harris ’17, who had six points in the period. GV cut the lead to 14 early in the fourth, but a trey and driving layup by KJ Helton ‘16 and a late three by Sherman pushed the lead back to 20 points at 63-43.
LM’s bench saw significant action and defensive ace Mike Berg ’16 closed the scoring with an acrobatic runner, much to the delight of a large Thursday night Dawg Pound.
Jule Brown ’15 led the Aces with 19 points. Helton (16 points) and Sherman (15 points) also reached double-figures. Eight LM players entered the scoring column.
With the win, the Aces improve to 6-1 in league play (7-4 overall) heading into one of their toughest tests of the season. LM will host New Jersey power Haddonfield on Saturday evening in the 1st Annual Hope Classic benefiting the Angelman Syndrome Foundation. Tip-off is 7 PM.
