The Aces continued their improved play on Thursday night, delivering a solid 65-52 victory over visiting Springfield. LM used a 10-2 second quarter run to break open a tight game and maintained a double-digit margin for most of the next three quarters. The Aces led 33-22 at half and extended the lead to 17 late in the third. Springfield hung around, but couldn’t stop an efficient LM offense that drilled seven treys and shot better than 60% from the field. The 65 points that the Aces scored were the most allowed by Springfield this season.
LM received strong performances from a number of players. Justin McFadden ’14 (16 points) and JaQuan Johnson ’14 (14 points) led the Aces in scoring. Jule Brown ’15 tallied eight points and played excellent perimeter defense all night. Steve Pendleton ’15 (10 points) continued his fine play, hitting several tough layups to thwart a late Cougars comeback attempt. Nick Jones ’15 (7 points) gave the Aces a jolt, keying LM’s second quarter run with a trey and an acrobatic layup. Corey Sherman (8 points) knocked down two three-pointers and had a big blocked shot. David Baer ’14 was steady in his first career start. Adrian Levitt ’14, Oliver Henry ’14, Myles McGregor ’16 and Eli Needle ’16 also saw time.
With the win, the Aces improve to 7-2 in Central League play. LM returns to action on Saturday night in a match-up with last year’s state semifinals opponent, New Castle. The Red Hurricanes are currently undefeated and ranked #3 in Pennsylvania. The contest is the nightcap of the Kobe Bryant Classic at Lower Merion. Tip-off is 7:00 PM.
