Jule Brown '15 was named game MVP in the Aces' win at the Pete & Jameer Nelson Classic

Jule Brown '15 scored a career-high 21 points and collected 14 rebounds to lead the Aces to a 70-66 win against Sanford School (Del.) at Widener University.

Nick Jones '15 and JaQuan Johnson '14 each added 13 points and Corey Sherman '15 tallied 11, including three three-pointers in the second half, to help fuel the LM attack. Despite early foul trouble, Justin McFadden '14 added seven and took two key charges. KJ Helton '16, Eli Needle '16 and Steve Pendleton '15 all provided a spark off the bench.

Trailing 23-21 at halftime, the Aces exploded on a decisive 16-1 third quarter run highlighted by treys from Sherman and Brown. LM outscored the Warriors 26-11 in the frame and fended off a late Sanford rally in the fourth to claim their third victory of the season. A Brown rebound and two free throws in the closing seconds sealed the final margin.

It was an important win for the Aces, who bounced back from a blowout loss to Archbishop Carroll earlier in the week to end 2013 on a positive note. In beating Delaware's defending state champs and top-ranked team, the Aces may have turned a corner in what has been a challenging first month of the season.

"We were fortunate to get a win today against a high-caliber opponent," said coach Gregg Downer. "It was an important win for our kids and hopefully, it's something we can build on moving forward."

The Aces return to action on Friday night against Ridley in their first home league game of the year. Tip-off is 7 PM.
