Mike Robbins '12 soars to the rim in the Aces' win on Tuesday

The Aces opened 2011 with a bang, beating a tough Conestoga squad 56-41 on Tuesday night at home. After a slow first quarter that ended 16-12 in favor of the Pioneers, the Aces evened the score at 23-23 on a thunderous dunk by BJ Johnson '13. Johnson blew past a defender on the right wing and rose for a two-handed jam that ignited the Dawg Pound and the team. The Aces would never look back, outscoring the Pioneers 17-9 second quarter and methodically building a double digit lead in the second half.

Mike Robbins '12 led all scorers with 15 points, including a perfect night (6-6) at the charity stripe. Raheem Hall '13 and Darius Hall '11 scored ten points apiece.

The Aces' depth proved to be a key factor once again. LM received important contributions from numerous players, particularly on the defensive end. Junior Darryl Reynolds finished with a career-high seven blocked shots. Seniors Colin Eisenstaedt and Mark Krantz provided strong perimeter defense and keyed the Aces' full court pressure. The Aces sent fresh legs in and out of the contest at almost every stoppage in play. The margin of victory was the Aces' largest against Conestoga since 2006.

With the win, the Aces move to 4-1 in league play (5-3 overall) heading into a big Friday night match-up with perennial league power Ridley. The Green Raiders ended the Aces Central League title hopes last year on a buzzer-beater in the semi-finals of the league playoffs.

Props to the Dawg Pound, many of whom dressed in togas (for "Stoga"), for keeping things lively all night long.
