Oliver Cohen '10 had a career-high 22 points on Sunday

Oliver Cohen '10 scored a career-high 22 points and the Aces battled state-ranked Red Land (12-1) to the final seconds, but fell 57-54 at the Harrisburg Scholastic Play by Play Classic on Sunday. LM hit ten three-pointers and had a season-low six turnovers.

Trailing by a point with just over two minutes to play, Cohen hit a reverse layup to give the Aces a 53-52 lead. On the ensuing possession, LM appeared to get a clean stop, but an unlucky bounce on a rebound led to a loose change layup for Red Land. The Aces would have two more chances to take the lead, forcing turnovers on consecutive possessions, but couldn't convert. With 12 seconds to play, the Aces were forced to foul and Red Land sealed the game at the line.

The Patriots, led by their highly-touted 6'8 and 6'9 frontline utilized their significant size advantage, converting on 10-15 shots in the second half, many from close range. The scrappy Aces countered with full-court pressure, creating many of their scoring opportunities off of Red Land turnovers. Matt McKenna '11 (9 points) had three steals in the open court that led to scores.

Cohen was brilliant in defeat. The senior guard connected on five-threes and finished with four assists and two steals. Alon Seltzer '10 scored 13 points, including a game-tying 3-pointer late in the fourth quarter. He also had four rebounds. Mike Buchwald (6 points) helped the Aces claw back from an early 8 point deficit to give LM its first lead of the game in the 2nd quarter on a three-pointer. Conor Foote (2 points) and Mike Block (2 points) rounded out the scoring.

The Aces return to action on Wednesday night against Harriton at Bala Cynwyd MS. Gametime is 7:30 PM.
