Greg Robbins '09 led all scorers with 18 points, including this dunk in the 2nd quarter, in the Aces' 48-28 playoff win
The Aces exploded on a 32-4 first half run and outscored Quakertown 21-1 in a scintillating second quarter en route to a 48-28 victory in Round 1 of the District playoffs. Senior Greg Robbins led all scorers with 18 points. Senior Harley Williamson and junior Alon Seltzer chipped in with 13 points each. All Aces on the active roster took the court; starters rested for most of the second half.

The Aces’ defense on Friday night was stifling. The Panthers, led by Marquette-bound senior Brett Roseboro and junior sniper Dalton Nice, struggled to find open shots. Of particular note was the individual effort by senior guard Vince Weldon, who limited Nice to a single point (on a technical free throw), the first time all season that the Panthers’ leading scorer had been held in single digits. Williamson and Robbins teamed up to slow down the 6’9 Roseboro, who scored just nine points -- well below his season average. Senior captain Eric Stahler, injured for the entire regular season, returned to the court on Friday and forced two Panthers turnovers, including a five-second violation. Junior Oliver Cohen had three steals.

The game featured fireworks on the offensive end as well. Robbins, who attacked the rim all night, had a booming two-handed throw-down in the closing minute of the first half off a beautiful backdoor feed from Seltzer. Williamson, emerging as a dominant interior presence, played an effective high-low game with Robbins, highlighted by a Robbins-to-Williamson dish for a dunk in the third. Seltzer shot 6-7 from the floor, including a three-ball in the first quarter which sparked the Aces’ huge run. Cohen had five assists in just two quarters of play.

The Aces also received contributions from senior defensive specialist Nick Bibbs, sophomore Matt McKenna (2 points), seniors Mike Joseph and Joe Moran and juniors J.J. Hoffstein, David Ancona-Cole, Conor Foote and Aaron Staley.

The Aces advance to play Central Bucks West on Tuesday, February 17th at Bala Cynwyd Middle School. Tip-off time is set for 8:00 PM. Tickets will be available at the Lower Merion HS athletic office beginning Tuesday morning at 9 AM.
