Eric Barefield ’07 (Alvernia University) and Ryan Brooks ’06 (Temple University) are off to strong starts this season
National television seems to be a comfortable stage for the Aces’ current Division 1 alums. Ryan Brooks ’06 scored 16 points and had 10 rebounds in the Temple Owls’ very impressive win against 8th-ranked Tennessee last weekend. Brooks hit clutch baskets in both halves to stifle runs by the Volunteers. Hustling on the sidelines during the game was another Aces alum and current member of the Owls program, Matt Lachs ’08. Lachs is getting his feet (and towel) wet as Lower Merion’s first-ever D1 manager…Also last week, Garrett Williamson ’06 and the St. Joe’s Hawks pulled off a near-upset of #15 Villanova; Williamson had an excellent floor game at the point, pacing the Hawks with six assists, knocking down a key basket in the closing minutes and playing solid perimeter defense...At the D3 level, Eric Barefield ’07 has had quite a start for the Alvernia Crusaders this season; Barefield leads the Freedom Conference in assists, leads all conference point guards in assist/turnover ratio, posted a career high 16 points in a win v. Penn State-Berks and recently had 28 assists and two game-winning shots in a three-game stretch…Dan Capkin ’05, Steve Meehan ’08 and the Gettysburg Bullets currently stand at 4-2 and were ranked #15 in the country in the latest D3Hoops poll. Capkin is averaging nearly 15 points per game and is shooting better than 44% from beyond the arc.
