Carl Johnson scored 21 points and eight Aces entered the scoring column, but it was not enough as Lower Merion fell to Upper Darby 63-42 on Friday night. Despite the loss, three underclassmen scored their first career varsity points, including freshman Oliver Cohen, sophomore Mike Joseph and junior Will Jones. Junior Andrew King also saw his first varsity action. All four provided a spark off the bench and battled hard against a tough Upper Darby squad who many consider to be a league title contender. The Royals shot a blistering 9-14 from beyond the arc, compared to the Aces' 2-11. The point differential from three-point territory (21) equaled the margin of the final score.

Luckily for the Aces, they won't have too much time to dwell on the loss. The team, now 3-2, returns to the court on Saturday at home against Penn Wood in the nightcap of the Scholastic Play-by-Play Main Line Classic. Gametime is 8 PM. Penn Wood (3-2) is coached by former Harriton coach Clyde Jones, who left the Rams earlier this Fall to assume his new post. At 6 PM, Central League power Ridley takes on Monsignor Bonner. Bonner features Virginia-bound wing-guard Jeff Jones and super soph Ligah Thompson, while the Green Raiders are led by juniors Steve Egee, Dan Robinson and senior Marcus Payton.

Aceshoops.com sends well wishes to Ben Lucas, Greg Robbins and Harley Williamson for speedy recoveries from injury.
