2007-08 to mark 100th anniversary of LM Basketball; final season in Main Gym

9-19-2007jpged.gif The 2007-08 campaign marks the final season of the historic Main Gym and the 100th year of basketball at Lower Merion High School. Construction of the new Lower Merion High School, which will feature a state-of-the-art gymnasium, begins next Spring with opening anticipated for the Fall of 2010. A number of events will mark this historic season, including a reunion event tentatively scheduled for late December and the release of an Aces All-Century Team. Portions of the main gym floor, where Kobe Bryant, Sarah Lowe and hundreds of other Aces boys and girls basketball players capped their careers, will be offered at public auction later this year. The 2007-08 season begins with tryouts during the week of November 12. The first home game is scheduled for Saturday, December 8th against Strath Haven. The final regular season home game in Main Gym history will be played Tuesday, January 29th against Penncrest. *** Team notes… Following a productive summer campaign, a number of Aces players will take to the court during several Fall events. The first is a team competition at Downingtown West High School during the weekend of September 29-30, followed by an event at Cabrini College on October 6-7…The Aces will play home games off-site during the 08-09 season - Villanova University and Haverford College have been rumored as possible venues.
