The Aces earned another double digit win against a Central League foe on Thursday night. After a slow start, LM picked it up after halftime and finished strong to beat the Fords of Haverford 63-46.
The Aces came out flat, trailing Haverford early in the first, and settled for a 26-26 tie at intermission. The gritty Fords caught LM napping on defense, knocking down three treys in the half. The 26 points scored by the Fords represented the most points allowed in a half by the Aces this season.
The Aces, however, had a short memory. They came out firing early in the third and stepped up on defense, building a lead that Haverford wouldn’t overcome. LM outscored the Fords 19-7 in the frame, pushed the lead to 20 early in the fourth and coasted down the stretch. For the third time this season, all players on the roster saw time.
Greg Robbins and Carl Johnson both had huge games, scoring 19 points each, with Johnson dishing out six assists. Great hustle on both sides of the ball was shown by seniors Ben Lucas and Steve Meehan, who both had 3 pointers to contribute to the win. Junior Harley Williamson and senior Kevin Escott cleaned up on the boards, ripping down seven boards apiece.
A shout out goes to senior Tobi Ajirotutu, who scored his first varsity basket in the last minutes of the fourth quarter.
The Aces have a challenge coming up this Saturday at 7:30 pm against AA State Champion Prep Charter in the Main Gym. After sending the twin duo of Markieff and Marcus Morris to the University of Memphis, sharpshooter Jesse Morgan has stepped up this season, scoring 28 against Strawberry Mansion.
Saturday also happens to mark the birthday of Aces manager extraordinaire Matt Lachs. Aceshoops.com wishes Matt a very Happy Birthday!
